Final Project

The Fighter

The beginning to the film 'The Fighter' is the titles of the company 'paramount pictures, it then fades to the opening of the company 'relativity media' which has non-diegetic sound of whistling. The screen goes black and you hear the voice of an American man speaking and on the screen the words 'Lowell Massachusetts-1993' fade in. Theres then a cut to a man sat on a sofa, this is the same man who has been speaking, and from watching the trailers i understand this to be Christian Bale. There is then a cut to a video of a teenage boy boxing in a garden, and the shot then cuts back to Christian Bale on the sofa and Mark Wahlberg sits next to him and theres lots of cuts between the sofa scene and the garden scene, and then goes to an actual boxing match where Christian Bale's character is fighting, this is the end of this clip. It is different to the others i have analysed, as no action happens apart from the boxing match.

The mechanic

The opening clip from the film 'the mechanic' opens with a short showing of the logo for the company 'millenium pictures' and then cuts to the doors of a plane hangar opening. You then see a private jet and hear the diegetic sound of it taking off, this makes us assume that all those involved are quite rich when you see the plane moving the camera pans to show a maserati sports car and several HUV's, the non-diegetic upbeat music then starts. Some men in suits then get out of the plane and down the steps into some of the cars that are there, one man who seems to be of the most importance gets into the maserati; the convoy of cars then leaves and drives onto a long country road, at this point the non-diegetic music has changed into softer mexican style guitar playing. The convoy of cars stops when there is a blockage ahead and some men get out of the HUV at the front and go to see what the problem is, they have guns and are beating the people in the blockade with sticks. The car which was blocking the road is moved and the convoy drives into a large house grounds, all the men in the cars get out and walk into the house. The camera pans when the man from the maserati takes off his clothes and walks into a swimming pool. There is diegetic sounds of him in the pool, and he goes to dive down and he is grabbed by something/someone.

Green hornet opening

The clip opens with the 'Columbia' logo, but the torch that the woman usually holds is glowing green, and then 'explodes' and goes to the 'original films' logo. The clip then cuts to a child sat in a car with the window down and is flying the toy of a superhero. The music thats playing at this point is quite dramatic and is non-diegetic. There is then a mid shot of the boy as he sits back into the car, and the camera pans out showing the car (which is quite old fashioned) and a man which looks like a butler, through this mis en scene the audience assumes this part of the film isn't set in modern times. There is then a two shot of the boy and 'butler' as they are walking, they seem distant which may back up the point that he is a butler. You then see that they are in an elevator through the use of a point of view shot; when the doors open there is a mid shot of the boy and the writing 'columbia pictures presents' appears. The non-diegetic music then stops as the camera pans to follow the pair walking through an office, with diegetic office sounds in the foreground. They then walk into an office and the visuals 'The Green Hornet' appear whilst the first bit of dialogue happens. The small boy in this clip is being spoken at by a man in a suit, who we as an audience believe is his father. The man then grabs the toy off of the boy and breaks it, whilst you hear the boy screaming. There is a tilt up from the toy to the mans face before he throws the toy back to the boy.
